Greetings from Mexico!
You’re learning English.
I’m learning Spanish.
And because I’m a beginner, it’s great!
This is the easy stage.
In fact, I feel like a language-learning genius!
Yesterday I saw a sign at the airport, Use mascara
Use your mask!
Easy!
I’m writing this email in a cafe.
A sign on the fire extinguisher says, Equipo Contra Incendio.
I know what that means, too!
Amazing!
But I know this feeling won’t last.
When you learn a new skill, you will always meet The Plateau.
(a plateau is a flat piece of land on top of a hill)
That’s when your progress flattens.
You don’t feel like you’re moving forward.
It’s slow.
It’s frustrating.
You start thinking, “I’m busy… I’ve got other things to do… I’ll do my English tomorrow…”
That’s when students quit.
And that’s not good.
