This week we’re asking the question: Can adults learn English faster than children?
I say, “Yes.”
With a big IF following right behind it.
So on to our next, Yes, adults can learn faster than children…
IF They Buy Time
Yesterday I told you I spent $185 on a frequency word list for Italian.
What I didn’t tell you is that it was more than simply a list: it was a word list made into flashcards.
I use flashcards with a program called Anki.
It’s absolutely the fastest way to learn new vocab.
The only problem is, most of the free flashcard decks you find online are poorly made.
A good flashcard needs three things: a picture, sound, and the word in context.
Plus, it has to be 100% in your target language or else you’re just creating a translation habit.
But making your own is time-consuming.
As the website where I bought the Italian flashcards advertises:
“Did you know it takes on average 3 minutes to create just 1 card. Many language learners will end up creating over 2000 cards to reach A2 level, a total of 100 hours spent on card creation alone.”
I don’t have 100 free hours.
Do you?
What I did have is $1.85 which I used to buy each of those hours.
But you know who has time but no money?
Kids.
Remember how long summers used to last when you were a kid?
Remember how long an hour in the car or an hour in church or an hour in school lasted?
Time was different then.
And you had tons of it.
Not so now.
It’s probably hard enough to find the time to Do English.
You definitely don’t need to be wasting time preparing to Do English.
Every morning I spend about 20 to 30 minutes on Italian.
And I want all that time to be spent learning.
I don’t want to spend any time looking, waiting or travelling.
And neither should you.
Don’t waste time travelling to a school. Get an online teacher.
And don’t waste time looking for online lessons.
Join The Society and I’ll send you a Sticky Stories daily lesson every morning.
More than English, you’re buying time.
And that’s a huge advantage that adults have over children.
