Here’s a recent text conversation I had with a friend:
Me: Hey, let’s meet for dinner this week.
Friend: Ok, how about Wednesday at 5:30?
Me: 5:30! Why so early!? My grandmother doesn’t even eat that early.
When we finally did meet for dinner, at a later time, I asked why he eats so early.
He said it’s for his sleep.
If he eats five hours before bed, he sleeps deeper.
What a weirdo, I thought.
Then earlier this week, I had an unusual morning.
I was doing my usual vocab review for Spanish, but I was forgetting words.
I mean, we all forget words. That’s normal. But this morning I was forgetting more than usual.
I thought about it and… Ah ha! The reason was I hadn’t slept well the night before.
Sleep was the reason.
You know, English isn’t just words.
Words are in your brain and your brain is in your body.
They’re all connected.
So want to remember more words?
Go to sleep.
