BALTIMORE, USA – “Sorry for my English.”
Omer was two meters tall, from Turkey, and he was sitting next to me Saturday night.
We were in Tysons Corner, Virginia, just outside of DC, to hear a well-known author talk about what’s going on in the world.
And before the event, there was dinner and time to talk.
“Don’t worry. It’s fine. I can understand everything you say.”
“Yes, but it used to be better.”
Whenever I find out someone is not a native speaker, I get there English story.
Omer’s story was that he went to an international school in Istanbul when he was a child. Now he read a lot and watched TV, so his understanding was still very good, but because he didn’t work with native speakers, he felt his speaking was getting worse.
“But after a week or two in the US, it will be much better,” he explained.
“Do you know what also helps my speaking?” he continued.
“What?” I asked.
“This,” he said as he picked up his glass of wine.
Very true. Alcohol relaxes you. And almost everything is easier when you’re relaxed.
Unfortunately, I can’t recommend you bring a bottle of Jose Cuervo to your 8 am sales appointment next Monday.
Fortunately, there are other ways to relax and speak better almost instantly.
I describe one of the best methods for English students in my new Mr. Vig Guide.
And I’m giving it away for free.
All I ask is that you try Vig U for a month.
What’s Vig U?
It’s also new.
This week I’m putting the finishing touches on it.
And next week I’ll tell you how you can try it.
