Last week I told you about Pavla.
She thought her problems with English were her fault.
(if you missed that lesson you can read it here)
Today you’ll learn the real reason she (and… possibly you?) was not fluent.
And we’ll start with a look back in time.
1763 A.D.
Most of the world lived on farms and grew their own food.
A few men called emperors had life and death power over millions.
Information travelled at the speed of a fast horse.
And doctors thought it was a good idea to put a small blood-sucking parasite called a leach on their patients.
This was also the year King Frederick the Great of Prussia passed the first law making education mandatory.
A lot has changed since then.
Grocery stores, cars, constitutions, the internet, doctors without leaches…
But we still have public education.
And the methods used inside the classroom of 1763 look a lot like the methods used today.
If your first English lesson was in a school, then you know how successful those methods are.
What should schools do instead?
I have an idea.
But first, take a look at one of the pages from a book on my shelf.
The book is called “Learning Vocabulary In Another Language.”
It’s super boring. I don’t recommend it.
My point is, each of those paragraphs you see above is a research study.
There were hundreds used for this book.
And there are hundreds of books like this one.
Linguists, scientists, professors… in the last fifty years, they have done a ton of research.
Bottom line, we know what works.
We know better and faster ways to remember, to learn, and to speak a foreign language.
And.. we know what doesn’t work.
Here’s the short list:
- Studying
- Memorizing
- Learning grammar rules
- Sitting in a group lesson
- Reading text books
- Getting a certificate
These are the old methods.
If you already know the basics…
If you want to speak easily and naturally…
If you’ve been learning English for YEARS…
And you’re STILL not flunent…
Then the reason is probably because…
There is another way.
It’s the same way the millions and millions of people who never need my lessons get fluent.
It’s “The English Secret.”
And it’s next week.
