“How did you learn English?”
I ask this question almost weekly.
Only once I heard the answer: “I learned to speak English at the _____ School of English.”
Sure, you can make progress at a school.
You can get your start at a school.
But fluent?
No.
One, two, three hours a week?
Multiple choice grammar exercises?
Speaking to the person next to you for 60 seconds? (“What is your favorite vegetable?”)
That’s not going to do it.
It’s easy.
It feels good.
But where’s the evidence it works?
