Well I quit my job and I told my boss
I ain’t gonna work no more
Every day’s gonna be my day off
I ain’t gonna work no more
“Ain’t Gonna Work No More”
lyrics by Roger Miller
The lady who cleans my father’s house says “ain’t.”
Of course, that’s not good English.
But here’s the interesting part, my Dad never says “ain’t.”
Even though he’s heard Leena say it for years.
And he probably won’t start saying it, either.
But you, dear reader, on the other hand….
American Grammar Police Ain’t Gonna Work No More
Did you know that in the United States and Great Britain, it is legal to write a song without first passing a grammar test?
I know, shocking.
But it’s true.
And as a result, many of our songs contain language that is, well, not correct.
When your English is strong, like my Dad’s, who has been practicing for almost 90 years, then listen to whatever you like.
But until then, why not feed your brain correct English?
I don’t mean the singer has to sound like the Queen, but he or she should at least use correct grammar (like Queen!)
Rule #2: Listen to songs with correct English
Hi. opportunity I din not know any singer.
Well I quit my job and
I told my boss
I ain’t gonna work no more
So wonderful lyrics that express a strong feeling for free, it’s like a ballad, it’s art; but art have no rules and it’s free from grammar.
I ain’t gonna work no more sounds more expressive than I will never work again, I suppose.
Of corse for us it’s important to learn a correct English.
I think that great music requires clear and correct language, as well as beautiful words. Without good text, the music is empty. In my opinion, the Swedish music group ABBA meets the criteria for amazing music. That is why my favorite band is ABBA and I like very much their song “Dancing Queen”.
Art has no rules . But you are wright ! Listen correct English ,speak correct English .
I like Tina Turner and her songs.
Hi, Mr. Vig. The last time you told us, grammar is not important. The text in the song is slang, I think, and the people in the streets, in movies and interviews, in chats and so on, they speaks slang, isn’t it?
So, I need to learn both, of course correct english, but also the meaning in slang.
Hmm, good point. My point is, listen to correct English more than incorrect. And know the difference.
Hi, my one of the best singer is Madona with her song “Frozen”. I many times listen to that song with subtitles and lerned english. In youtube are almost all songs with subtitles.
I listen the music just when I’m driving from the radio. I’m driving every day between two to four hours. So I like any kind of music.
Hi Mr.Vig!
My favorit band is Dire Straits. My favorit song Brothers in Arms. Mark Knopfler is a genius. His guitar play very kind of my soul. I listen them every day. My opinion his english is very good, and clear. Do you like this band?

“Baby I’m dancing in the dark with you between my arms barefoot on the grass Listening to our favorite song
Music is powerful.
Music can teach us many thinks.
My list is very big. Classic rock, alternative rock punk rock etc.
I love many bands and singers who sing in English.
Generally I listen music because of music. Because of sound.
In the other hand very often I realise that lyrics of these songs are like poetry.
In the end, many songs are source of new words or English expressions.
– Imaging on the people
– one way ticket
– personal responsibility
Etc.
Have a nice Friday!!!

We should feed our brain with correct English . The singer sound like the Queen, but he or she should at least use correct grammar
