Do you ever wonder…
“Am I the only person who can’t understand English?”
Well, it even happens to native speakers.
Last weekend I was at a conference in Bangok for business owners who travel.
I met interesting people from Malaysia, India, Turkey, Holland, France, South Africa…
We had many conversation in English.
And then I met a guy from Australia….
“What do you do for a living?” I asked him.
“I sell eating,” he replied.
“Well, that’s odd,” I thought. “Perhaps he’s in the restaurant industry.”
Eventually, I figured out he was saying “heating.”
Then I told him what I thought he had said.
We laughed about it and the conversation continued.
Remember that next time you can’t understand your speaking partner.
HI ! Ryan
The pronunciation of two words îs very close ,hence the inițial misunderstanding of what Australian said .
The joke is great !
Eating= Heating WOW !!! Amazing !!!
It is excusable, really strange to deal with heating in Australia.:) 🦦
Mr, Vig. My plan to traveling to Malaysia next month. Thanks
I am afraid that I am at the other side of the joke, sadly it’s the pessimistic side!! If English language might be difficult even for some native speakers, it could be a hell for me as a second or third language 😔😔. But even though I got your message and just we need to keep moving.
A nice joke…!
I think it is a good moment to exercise, to re-start with English daily routine
Regarding the Course, I don’t understand what it means that “you pay automatically” “without doing anything”. You mean your money is withdrawn automatically, without your consent?! It is ambiguous. Are there other payment methods, without a card?!
Hi Cornelia, Yes, that’s right. You give your consent once, then it’s automatic every month, like Netflix or a gym. And you can also pay by PayPal.
Hello my dear teacher, Mr. Vig!
I like what happened to you , too! 😂
Once time! While it happens to us so often!
My recommendation: Make your next stop in…Australia! and fill the “bag” (the kangaroo’s pocket!!) with …Australian English…👍
I’m joking of course!
As for me, I arrived home, in Romania. In Europe for two months I spoke
English quite well. Thank you!
Starting from November, I will return to your English school routine. For the next 3 months – the basic level, then I will see how and where I will continue. Greetings and only good news from you!
There are words with very close pronunciation in all languages, however I am still trying to understand, the content of the specific simile??
Your story is very nice pedagogical way to say how to be calm in learning of another language. No matter which one. Thank you, Ryan. You are perfect.
Hi Ryan!
I’ve been trying to listen to your good stories every day in Speaking School and it often happens that I hear some words wrong. I train my ears to listen properly…misunderstanding still occurs. I hope it gets better over time. Fortunately I can read…😅
Enjoy hot Thailand!
Hi Mr.Vig! I like so much your stories! Thanks a lot
Was he a French/ Australian?
Because Frenchs don’t pronounce the H.
As a native Asian rather i never ever capable to roll their R.
Well, I listened the mr.-Vig’s story “Melting ice..” so many times on my september abroad vacation and more times later just driving, and every time was trying to imagine the couple walking “to melt their freezed house”,
until I’ve checked the text-file today:
“parents left home one day in 1942 to milk
their cows”
:)))
You are great! Thank you so much!
