Yesterday, I asked you to be the teacher.
I asked you to correct the English written on a pub window here in Prague.
It was just one word, “Aircondition.”
Here’s how to test which form of the word is correct.
Imagine the word is part of a sentence.
The pub owner is talking to a customer on the street.
Which sentence would he say?
“Come into my pub because we have…
- air condition.”
- air conditioner?”
- air conditioning?”
And the correct answer is….
Brrrr. It’s Cold.
Hello from cold and dark central Europe.
Last month I was in hot and sunny Southeast Asia.
I prefer this.
Am I weird?
Probably.
Do I care?
The Answer
“Come in to my pub because I have air conditioning.”
Now here’s a bonus question for you…
Why is that pub advertising cold air?
Currently, the temperature is -5.
The average Prague temperature in the summer is just 16.
I was in Bangkok recently.
I was sweating at midnight standing still.
Did the pubs there advertise heating?
No.
Because that would make no sense.
As one reader wrote, on a pub window it should say: “Beer-wine-vodka!”
The last one is good. Or We give you what you Wish.
Probably these shops, pubs and stores in Prague are so crowded that they need air conditioning which isn’t very good for health.
Generally I don’t like pubs so much but probably it depends on people, atmosphere and place, localization
I don’t know it
Depend of season, in air conditions the temperature can be set to hot or to cold. So…..
I am sorry, but I dont understant what the system is. I understood the question about the conditioner, and what I do do next?
Probably the owner of the pub has some small gaps in his English, but he is clearly an honest person – he advertises his restaurant with the best is available in it. 🙂
Or it is something romantic- just trying to impress some health inspector 😀
Oh so? I really don´t know if or what kind of sign about air conditioning should hang on the pubs windows. As always – it depends. As a long-time hotel emploee, I know customers are very, very angry when they are placed on a hot summer day in a room without this device… or… it was broken…Do not recommend for either party…
You know modern AC can serve as both a cooler and a heat pump just by changing a function mode.
Should say thank you for the example…however we are not competing here in wit, but learning a foreign language.
This story made me smile, thank you.
I also prefer warm sunny weather.
And I agree – it should be written on the window of the pub: “Beer-wine-vodka!”
and could add “Delicious cocktails”
Pubs probably advertise their advantage, the trend they are in. In my country, there is usually notice with “smoking allowed” or “no smoking”.
By hanging an advertisement on the window air condition, he wanted to attract more customers because people are accustomed to entering pubs with air conditioning
Air conditioner works in order to output both hot or cold air …it depends on the temperature we have outside. So the owner wants to welcome his customer with hot air .
HI Ryan !
A subtle way of advertising his pub.
Very nice !
In warm weather the aur conditions makes environment cleaner and cold and people can easily shop and enjoy from shopping,
Air condition
It’s cold here , too
I wonder in what country pub windows it was writen? I think it’s goes more in Prague, cause temperature in the summer is just 16, even more in Chec respublic it’ s very high developed ” beer drinking cultury” and in anothe hand I can’t imagen drinking vodka in
Bangkok?,🙂🙃😉
