What do you think of our story so far?
(If you missed the first parts, you can find them here and here.)
Pretty incredible, right?
Just like Indiana Jones.
Except Sorenson didn’t bring back a lost treasure, he brought back a lost secret.
The secret – how to learn a foreign language.
Our ancestors knew this secret.
But as the “experts” created schools and rules, language learning became work and it became slow.
Then Sorenson discovered a primitive group of people living in the Amazon rainforest who had never heard of a school, yet easily learned languages.
Their secret?
Which was lost to the modern world for so long?
To learn a new language….
Listen.
Your Listening Plan
I have a simple three-step listening plan I give my students.
Here’s step one: Find something interesting.
Why interesting?
Because when you listen, you must focus.
And if what you’re listening to is boring, well, you’re going to look at your phone or fall asleep.
And unfortunately, it’s still not possible to learn English while you sleep.
Tomorrow: Your Listening Plan – Step Two

Thanks for a new metod of learning by lisening.
Hi,
The story is incredible. It’s fascinating to realize how “experts” can be wrong!!
It’s a pity that schools and rules made language learning become “work” and “slow”.
My grandmother arrived in France, from Italy when she was 20 years old, and of course she learned french simply by listening to people talking.
And so she did with me : she talked to me in Italian, when I was a child, and that’s how I learned Italian… no effort, no rules, no homework, nothing. Happiness !
And besides that, I can feel an Italian melody, deep inside me, that helps me understand the language, nearly intuitively.
I’m waiting for that feeling to happen to me with English.
Listening is definitely The thing to do.
Thank you Ryan, for the reminder.
I wonder if reading aloud isn’t similar to listening, when it comes to feeling the music of the language ?
Exactly! Nice story.
Your story is really amazing Ryan!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend at Varna and a special meeting with your Vig village friends at The Black Sea wich is very beautiful and special.
And I also write my own story plus painting, the last work was titled “The butterfly and lavander”; I know is childish but still love it
Thank you for English.
