Sunday morning I saw this message on Whatsapp:
“Who wants to play beach volleyball?”
My reply, “Hell, yeah!”
Hola, from hot and sunny Mexico.
I came here for a digital nomad conference.
It ended last week, but I’ll stay a little longer to work and explore.
Then when it gets too hot, I’ll return to Prague for the summer.
Now back to volleyball…
Unfortunately, the guy with the net never showed up.
So us digital nomads just sat around on the sand and drank beer.
Still not a bad way to spend your Sunday.
(Did you know you can get a fine for drinking beer on the beach in California? But not in Mexico — what a country!)
I asked a Lithuanian guy about his business.
He told me he made something in China and then sold it to people who run events.
Honestly, it sounded pretty boring.
But here’s the interesting part: he does a few things in the morning, like send emails and check stats.
Then he’s free for the day.
And free for the rest of his life, which he spends travelling the world with his Vietnamese girlfriend.
Oh, and he’s only in his early forties.
Not a bad life, right?
So what’s his secret, you’re wondering?
Is he smart?
Is he a hard-worker?
Probably.
But so are a lot of people.
I think what explains his fast success is belief.
He believes there’s a fast way.
What did our parents, schools, and society teach us?
First, you work and you suffer.
Then, after you’re 70, you can sit on a beach.
English experts DEFINITELY want you to believe this.
It took them many long and difficult years to become an expert.
Do they want you to get their knowledge quickly?
Hell no!
So they torture their students with things they don’t need to know, like conditionals and diphthongs and transvestite verbs.
But there’s ALWAYS a faster way.
Want to get to your hotel from the airport? You can take the bus or get an Uber.
Want to feel good and look good? You can sweat and suffer in the gym or you can quit sugar and factory oils.
Want to speak English? You can learn words you’ll never need. Or you can learn the words that are in EVERY sentence — The Power Words.
There’s always a faster way… if you want to find it.
