Isn’t technology wonderful?
Until, of course, it breaks.
And when you teach and communicate and sell 100% online like I do, well, things break all the time.
That’s why I was interviewing job candidates last week .
I needed someone to help me with technical stuff.
So I talked to two candidates.
Both were experienced and had a good performance record.
Here was the difference:
During the first interview, I understood her and she understood me.
But during the second interview, several times I had to ask the candidate to repeat what he said. And I’m not sure he understood me 100%, either.
So guess which one I hired?
Did the first candidate make grammar mistakes?
Sure.
Did she know the third conditional?
I don’t know.
It didn’t matter.
The only thing that mattered was, she understood me and I understood her.
Basic, clear, simple communication.
Sometimes, that’s all you need to get what you want in life.
