Last Thursday I taught a live training for Society members.
The subject was writing.
During the training I discussed the methods of famous writers like Stephen
King and Ernest Hemingway.
Want to know a method these writers never talk about?
Going to writing school.
What they do talk about is reading and writing.
That’s called “unconscious learning.”
“But wouldn’t it just be faster to read a book or go to a class and follow the rules?”
That’s probably what you’re thinking when you pick up a grammar book.
So is unconscious learning really better than conscious learning?
The psychologist Dr. Milton Erickson said, “Our unconscious learning is
retained much longer.”
Leonard Mlodinow, the physicist and colleague of Stephen Hawkins,
describes unconscious learning as “automatic” and happening “without any
effort.”
And maybe most interesting…
Dr. Srini Pillay from Harvard Medical School says, “95% of brain activity in
unconscious”
So according to these guys, when you pick up the grammar book…
- You won’t remember it for very long
- It’ll be hard work
- You’re only using 5% of your brain
Hmm.
But if you want to remember English longer…
If you want to learn it easily and automatically…
And if you want to use the full power of your brain…
Then you have to learn unconsciously.
Really I want to learn more from u
