What Does “Get The Hang Of It” Mean?

I was talking with a new friend from the coworking space.

I was telling her about my motorcycle adventure.

I said it was pretty difficult in the morning.

But by the afternoon I started to get the hang of it.

“What does that mean?” she asked.

I was surprised.

Because her English was quite good.

But she didn’t know this common native-speaker expression.
