VIKING VOCABULARY
When the vikings started their raids in the British Isles, they brought more than mayhem, they also brought – and left behind – many words.
You know these viking / Old Norse words: egg, happy, die, husband, get, take, give, call.
Another Old Norse word is snagi, which means the sharp branch of a tree.
In the old days, when a boat hit a snag that was hidden under the water, that was a problem.
Now we use it metaphorically.
