Because I like surprises.
And this morning, when I opened my curtains, I had a big surprise.
Snow!
The city is covered in a blanket of silence and beauty.
Maybe tomorrow’s forecast is for a hurricane.
If it is, don’t tell me!
A MOUTHFUL
Yesterday, I gave you a sentence that was a real mouthful.
Then I asked you to simplify it.
Thank you all for your suggestions.
Here’s what I would have said:
Attention visitors to Prague and residents of Prague. It is illegal to set off fireworks in Prague. If you are caught with fireworks, you will be fined. Thank you and Happy New Year.
Clear. Simple. Direct.
Much better.
MAILBAG FRIDAY
A reader asks:
“What’s the difference between “tame” and “pet.” I’m thinking of this quote from The Little Prince: ’If you think to tame me, you have to take care of me all your life.’”
Have you ever put your kid on a horse?
If you have, the first thing you want to know is, Is it tame?
Will it behave and act nice? Or will it go crazy and buck my kid off?
A tame animal is the opposite of a wild animal.
House cats are usually tame; lions are not.
Go to the circus and you can see the lion tamer in action.
And to pet….
That’s what you do with your hand when you touch an animal to say “hello.”
I recommend you only pet tame animals.
