Everything’s an adventure!
That’s why I love living in foreign countries.
In the US, when I run out of coffee filters, it’s a bother.
Here in Mexico – it’s time for another adventure.
Especially when you don’t know where the store is.
And when you don’t know the word for the thing you want to buy.
At dinner, I asked my friend for a mini-vocabulary lesson.
He used to live in Barcelona, so his Spanish is better than mine.
“How do you say, ‘Do you have coffee filters?’” I asked him.
He told me.
Then he told me another word, which I didn’t need.
Then he told me a sentence, which I really didn’t need.
Followed by a short grammar lesson.
“Stop!” I said.
This was quickly turning into INFORMATION OVERLOAD.
What’s that?
It’s when you try to learn too much at one time.
Your brain and memory can only take in so much at once.
Overloading it is not only pointless, it makes you feel bad when you forget it.
Feel bad about English > do less English > make slower progress > feel bad about your slow progress > quit English
And that’s not good.
