This is interesting.
When I was a nomad, I only bought books on my Kindle.
Now I’m renting an apartment again and I’m buying physical books.
When do you think I read more: When I buy digital books or physical books?
How To Become A Reader
This week, we’re talking about reading.
Reading improves your vocabulary and grammar.
But not enough students do it!
So I’m here to help by teaching you how to become a reader.
Step Two – Buy Real Books
Now that I can buy physical books again, I’m reading much more.
I have some ideas why:
- I can see the books.
When the book is on my coffee table, I rememeber that I own it.
But when a book is on a device (phone, kindle, laptop), it’s invisible until I turn it on and click.
2. I enjoy books
Books are like coffee; they involve many senses.
Coffee mugs are pretty to look at.
Coffee smells good.
Coffee feels good.
I even like looking at well-designed coffee machines and makers.
It’s the same with a book: it involves a lot of senses.
And you don’t get that from a .pdf.
Your homework: Buy a real book
Monday: How to Become a Reader: Step Three
Thank you!🤓📚
I totally agree with you. I can touch, smell it, nothing is better than read real book.
I totally agree with that statement about the way of presenting reading conditions. However, people are not the same some of them are visual and others are auditory.
I am agree! But borrow Books is also good, isn’t it? There is a well-stocked library in our village, and I borrow books from there. So far only those in my native language, German. Because there are books in other languages too, I will borrow one in English.
Be careful when you buy it, because once you start, you never stop doing it !
😙😉😊 📚📕📖📚📖📚📘📚

A day without reading a book is usually boring
Hi, definitely physical books. As you say, real book has smell, typography, size and keep it is nice.
Hi, everybody, a got one 👋 thank you for your advise.
My doughter bought “Jacob’s Room-Virginia Woolf” but we can’t understood it. Do you think we should read again and again? What do you suggest us?
Thanks…
Buy easy books!
I couldn’t agree more. In addition, I guess that another pro could be that a real book never needs to be charged 😉
I agree with you. Reading is very important. You live many adventures with a book. And it’s a good way to learn more
Yes, I like reading (paper) books in my native language, because the richness of the language gives me enjoyment. Reading books in English is a bit boring for me at the moment (maybe in the future) because I can’t have the same enjoyment. But I certainly agree that it is important for language learning. Do you read books in another language, Ryan?
I totally agree.
I love reading and I can see that it gaves me a greater vocabulary. It’s an important way to learn english. However I gave too much importance in reading and suddenly I noticed that I had difficult to understand what people said. To day I’m looking for lessons in listening as I can find in ipods.
Hello teacher! I’m Ángel I’m from Spain . I am agree with you, the physical book is better.
Real books are great!
I love to sense a physical book in my hands, perhaps with a special book cover.
Riffling through them,
smelling the typical good smell of a (new) book and
during my reading time not only seeing, but aĺso sensing my readingprogress…
But-
* first the bookshelves in our house are… filled🙆🏼♀️
* second I love my two E-book-Reader.
The transport of Kindle (amazon) and Tolino (thalia) with a lot of books is very easy at every trip.
Digital books are also great!
Reading samples on amazon,
easy browsing through a book,
coloring my favourite words and sentences by touchscreens
are still more some advantages.
This time I will combine a real book with an audibleversion to hear.
Whatever you actually prefer
the physical or the digital alternative-
books are fun!📚🐀
I love books and the short time I can spend reading. I’m trying to read in English at the moment. I don’t understand every single word, but I do understand the thought process. Do you think it is necessary to use a dictionary? I think the dictionary kills the reading experience.
I prefer and read real books. I read e-books on my kindle when I travel.
I nowadays my problem is that I hesitate between book in my native language, Bulgarian, and in English. Reading in English is more difficult for me and don’t give me such pleasure as reading in Bulgarian. But I keep trying to be happy of reading books in English. Maybe I just didn’t find appropriate English book yet?
I like to read books. I can read e-books and books, which were printed. I would like to read every minute 😀. Thanks for your daily letters. I enjoy every letters. Especially l liked to read about your trips. Thanks a lot!
I agree with you.I am a teacher of polish langugage and I am reading a lot of books in my origin langugage but I forgot about reading English books. I will try to improve that. Monika
Reading improves your vocabulary and grammar but the curious thing when I read something that I like I forgot about grammar, nouns and verbs or vocabulary; I only read!
I’ve got three books in English written by the same author( one finished to read) but I also bought a children book very nice and genuinely, named
Stories of spells and enchantments ( for my inner child, of course )
Hi, Mr Vig. thank You for Your motivation. I never thought about books as of a mug of coffee, though I am a coffee lover and I am a Russian and Polish reader. It is a very refreshing and new approach for me :))). Looking forward your “Step Three to become an English reader”.
Thanks
