Ever heard that word?
It’s a metaphor.
It doesn’t literally break ice.
But when you meet someone new, it’s like there’s a barrier… an invisible wall… a wall of ice between you.
And certain conversation topics and activities can break the ice.
Vig Village Rooftop Icebreakers
I’m in Malta this weekend for a Vig Village meetup.
If you’re new to Atomic Homework, Vig Village is my online community of friendly English speakers who want to become better English speakers.
And a few times a year we take the community offline and meet for the weekend in different cities.
As usual, we kick off these events with a few icebreakers to get everyone talking and feeling comfortable with each other.
This morning, we met by the hotel pool on the roof.
I gave everyone a piece of paper with some interesting questions.
They found a partner, someone they didn’t know well, and spent a few minutes asking and answering the questions I prepared.
For example…
- What are you looking forward to this weekend?
- After you left your home, when did you first need English?
- What did you pack that you will probably not need?
Those are good questions to break the ice, don’t you think?
Maybe you can try one of these icebreakers at your next cocktail hour, networking event or trip abroad.
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Vig
P.S.
On Monday, I’ll tell you what we did in Malta.
