Go to work… do some exercise… sit in traffic… walk the dog… play with the kids… talk to your husband/wife… go to sleep… repeat.
You’re busy.
We all are.
Welcome to life.
But, you also need to improve your English.
So what’s the solution?
Spend more time?
I disagree.
I recently met a student who was very motivated (she had a job interview in two weeks), and told me she planned to spend six hours every day on English.
I told her this was a mistake.
I told her less time was better.
Here’s the research:
A group of people had to memorize a poem.
Group A took four hours to learn the poem.
Group B only took 1.5 hours.
The difference?
Group A did all the memorizing at the same time on the same day.
While Group B did a little bit every day for three days.
Plus, they remembered the poem longer!
The same method will work for your English.
If you want to spend three hours a week on English, it’s better to do twenty minutes a day than three hours on Saturday.
You’ll remember more, you’ll spend less total time, and you’ll improve faster.
