“Wow. This guy’s an expert.”
A few years ago I was sitting in the Beer Museum on Dlouha Street in Prague talking with a new friend about women.
He knew about psychology, body language, evolutionary theory…
I imagined his bookshelf / hard drive was absolutely full of these kinds of books.
Then we finished our beers and I said, “Let’s go.”
“Where?”
“Somewhere with more girls. This place is dead.”
And then came the excuse tidal wave: time, money, weather, health, the political situation in Fiji, etc…etc…
At least that’s what he was telling me.
But what he was telling himself was a different story.
Which was: “I’m not ready.”
In his head, he just needed to read one more book, watch one more video, learn one more trick…
But it’s all a distraction.
He would learn more from one five-minute conversation with a real female than he would in hours of studying.
But talking is scary.
And studying is comfortable.
A comfortable distraction.
And why am I telling you this?
Because it’s the exact same in the world of English.
So many students spend their time on grammar rules, classes, certificates…
Preparing for the day when they’ll be ready.
But it’s a distraction.
A comfortable distraction.
If you can understand these words, then you’re ready now.
