I had a Zoom call with an Aussie last week.
An Aussie is someone from Australia.
And as you probably know, they were a British colony and they speak English.
But the first thing he said to me way, “How you going?”
Eh?
Changes
I just finished watching the inauguration ceremony in the U.S.
In the news, you might read the phrase, “Peaceful transfer of power.”
Whatever your political opinions are, I hope you agree that’s a good thing.
And that’s what we celebrate with each inauguration ceremony.
Watch one episode of “Vikings” and you’ll be reminded of how very non-peaceful and bloody gaining power was in the old days.
Aussie English
So what’s so strange about “How you going?”
What does it mean?
What would an American say?
What would a Brit say?
Hit the button to share your answers and we’ll continue with some more Aussie English tomorrow.
Hi,
I too just watched th inauguration ceremony in the USA and yes, we living on Czech and Slovak republic know (and remember) what does it mean “peaceful transfer or power”. We experienced it at the time of our “velvet revolution”. Ewen if not everything at that time (and now) was so “velvety “, it definitely wasn’t cruel. Everything is relative.
As you said I also watched at the tv show ceremony of inauguration of the new US president; it was.so interesting for me, I saw many interesting things that in a way inspired people.I admired this peaceful transfer of power , the dignity of both two president and the hopefully atmosphere.Americans, said the new president are people that can imake !mpossible things to become possible…,so inspiring!
‘How you going”?
What’s up?
How are you?
Hi, I’ ve never heard this phraze before, maybe it’s more popular in Austrailia😉.
I’m at work till now, I haven’t seen it. I like my freedom and I hope that what is going on at USA is going to be good for the world, we’ll see.
😅🤣😂 Hi all ! … it is like a sms exchange … langage will change … not more 🥰😍🤩🤣😅
I think Aussi wnted to know how You feel after the sky accident.

Hello,
First of all that’s great that democratic rules in US are obeyed and two former.opponents can shake hands and talk without rage.I hope that in the long term political changes in America will be also beneficial for Europe.
As to the weird sounded sentence, I think, it means.something like:
How are you doing? or How is it going?
Best regards
I think, the Brit will say “How are you” or “How do you do”, and the American simply “Hi, What’s up”.
How you doing?
I didnt watch the ceremony ,because I worked , later in the evening I saw a beautiful first lady just near president Trump. Melani comes from Slovenija and we are very proud of her routh from Sevnica – small town in our neighbourhood .
How are you going ?
What’s up ?
How are you ? This questions I use ..
How you going? Hmm, interesting…If it were “How are you going” I would think I’m not going right now but when I do I go on two just like most individuals of my species…
Sorry, I don’t understand what an Aussie said at all. It was just so strange and my brain blackout. That’s why I can’t suggest anything.
Really anybody would say ” How are you”? I imagine ” How do you do” is completely forgotten?
I must precise that I did not watch the cerimonia, nor ” Viking”. Alm this is available in Netflix?
Hello Mr Vig,as I spent some time in Australia, I know exactly how different aussie English from the others is. But I love it and love “aussie” sence of humor as they know their “dialect” is strenge.
Your email brough me back all the other typical aussie things and words (No worries, mate, take it easy, mate etc.) Both, aussies and kiwies are very frendly people (kiwies even more) and I´m very glad I could get know them.
Your way of learning seems to be very interesting and although I didn´t enter to your course, plese, keep write the emails.
PS. Sorry for my mistakes,itś been quite a long time since I was there and I dońt use English very often unfortunately.
Have a good time and thank you. Petra
