You go for a walk on a Saturday afternoon…
And you can’t cross the street!
That happens every time there’s a marathon in Prague.
Which was last weekend.
I live on this side of the street.
I wanted to go to that side of the street.
And between here and there was a river of sweaty humans.
“Well,” thought I, “if my ancestors could cross half a continent and an ocean without a credit card or wifi, I can cross this street.”
And as I stood there waiting for my chance to dash across, I had another thought.
“Fools! Why don’t they just wait until Sunday morning? Because on Sunday morning, they can run for free!”
So why don’t they?
Why don’t they wait a few hours and run for free on the empty Sunday morning streets?
That is easy. 🙂 Streets were closed. So they could run where is it impossible during the casual day. Another reason is, they wanted to enjoy the race atmosphere and compare their shape conditions with others and find out if they can reach the mileage (not everybody, but the slowest ones definitely). On the other hand, they train during the year. So this is one of the top point during their season, which they train for (motivation to achieve that)
I think Saturday and Sunday are both, more or less, free days. At least for many people that don’t work on Saturdays? But would the street in Prague really be free on Sunday? I am not sure.
This is cometittion with themselves and between each others. They train and practise during the year and they wanto to check out what would they achieve on competittion.
