Have you heard this story?
A circus trainer ties a baby elephants’ legs to a stake.
The baby elephant tries to get loose, but the rope is too strong.
Eventually it gives up.
It believes it’s not strong enough.
As the elephant grows up, the trainer never changes the rope.
By the time the elephant is fully grown, he is restrained by the same small rope.
Although he could easily break the rope, he still believes he is not strong enough.
That’s what we call “a limiting belief.”
I COULD NEVER
Haven’t you heard people say, “Oh, I could never do that.”
Or have you heard yourself say it?
I could never give a speech.
I could never start a business.
I could never give up sweets.
It could be the truth.
Or it could be a limiting belief.
You never know until you try.
Or try again.
This time, using all the skills and wisdom you’ve acquired over the years.
MY LIMITING BELIEF
I recently shed one of my limiting beliefs.
I thought I was not a detail person.
I had many years of proof to back this up.
Then, last week, I did something that required a lot of attention to detail.
And I was successful!
I’ll tell you more tomorrow.
Until then, think about this: What beliefs do you have about English that are limiting you?
