How To Forget Five Languages

I’m on my way back to Prague!

I just spent a long weekend in London.

First, I was a tourist.

If you’ve never been to London, I can highly recommend it.

They’ve got amazing museums and galleries, layers of history, friendly people, beautiful buildings, huge parks, world-class theater and charming pubs on every corner.

Then, after being a tourist, I attended a weekend event for business owners.

One of the attendees was a famous polyglot.

At the closing-night party last night I ask him about his languages.

“I’m not a polyglot anymore,” he told me.

“What!?” I said, shocked and surprised.

Here’s his story…

He used to be a world traveler.

He spent time in Spain, France, China and Portugal.

In each of the countries he lived in, he learned the language because he wanted to speak to the locals.

But now, he has a family and lives in a small town in England.

And during a typical week, he only meets and speaks with other English people.

So his motivation to learn and practice foreign languages is gone.

And consequently, his language skills have slowly faded.

How To Get Motivated To Speak
