In the gym, one man picks up a dumbbell and it changes his body.
But in the hands of another man, it does nothing.
You’ve got to know how to use your tools.
And I say, an English teacher is a tool.
Tip #2 — No More Rules
Tell your teacher, No more rules!
First, you can’t learn all the rules.
Murphy’s English Grammar in Use has 390 pages.
Good luck with that!
Second, You don’t want rules.
Instead, you want to make speaking as easy as walking down the street on a sunny day.
Third, thinking about rules while you’re trying to have a conversation is a recipe for a very bad conversation.
Yes, it would be nice if you made fewer mistakes.
(Note: I did not say “no mistakes.” Because that’s impossible.)
But another boring grammar lesson is not the solution.
And if you never got rid of your mistakes?
You could still travel far, make friends, get a new job, explore the internet, and have a full, rich life with English.
TOMORROW: How to teach your teacher, tip #3
DO MISTAKES? IT’S FUUUUN!

Good evening.
Interesting recommendations in VITAMIN.
I do not know if I understand the recommendatios correctly, but I think that we need to talk more and think less. By talking often, we gain confidence and we Canon reduce the number of mistskes. Do I understand it correctly?
Yes. Speak more and think less about rules while speaking – that’s good.
Thanc you for your lessons! I stil want leern english ,,step by step!
Good evening! I will read this “vitamin” for learning english a bit
You’re right with no more rules!
I think when you become aware with your mistakes, after a time you do fewer mistakes and this is amazing.
It’s a very positive message that you give us Ryan. I have Murphy’s books in red, in blue not in grey, but it discouraged me just when i see it. I’m demanding a lot on myself, i want to have the correct English, but there are others way for that i think. 🌟🌝
The way that you teache us every day
Hi Ryan,
It’s very interesting to make a pause and think about this issue : « how to improve my English ». Changing the rules.
What do I want ?
Rule number one : Of course I don’t want to get rid of my mistakes but I want to be able to say what my thoughts are and to be understood.
Rule number 2 : I want to understand easily the person in front of me.
Thank you for changing the rules and giving me the « good » rules and the good tools.
Beth, Nathan, Aubrey, Erin…. and all the Vig Village Citizens are my new tools.
Thank you so much.
Hi, You have right. Any rules… Reading help me much more.
Me too. But unfortunately, it doesn’t really improve my talking.
memory is my enemy
