Speaking of counting steps…
Yesterday evening, I was enjoying a dry gin martini with a friend.
Like me, he’s a digital nomad.
And like me, he lived in Bansko, Bulgaria for the winter.
I was telling him about our Vitamin V conversation this week, when all of a sudden he got a very worried look on his face.
He quickly checked his phone.
“Oh no!” he said.
“What’s the matter?” I asked.
“I still have to walk 143 meters.”
“What?”
“Every day I have to walk 2,000 meters. And today I still have 143 meters left.”
It was a few minutes past 11:30 PM.
He stood up and started walking around the cocktail bar.
“This isn’t going to work,” he announced.
And so he walked out of the bar and started circling the building.
“Well, at least now I have an interesting story for tomorrow’s Vitamin V,” I thought.
What do you think?
Is that motivation?
Insanity?
Or simply being a slave to rules.
And what if you had such strict rules for your English routine?
Next week we’ll continue discussing levels and testing.
And I’ll finally share with you my crazy ideas about how to improve your English faster when you don’t care about tests or levels or how many steps you’ve taken today.
It’s nice and funny story. Thanks
I love you,Mr.Vig…
143 steps? OMG 🙂
I come from country which was under comunistic control and for me restrictions were as if normal. But now I think that rules are needed but spontaneity and being spontaneous and free are important either. Balance probably is like exit from the situation. It is just my point of view.
I think we need to have good habits that will give us pleasure and not to stress. Sometimes flexibility in your daily routine is also good. 🙂
Hi everybody :-). Mom used to say, too much of everything is harmful. I agree. First, we need to know who we are. After we can do the framework of rules which we need to protect ourselves and others. And after life is simply great. Good evening!
A wonderful Teacher. Thanks
A personal experience: for decades I worked and lived according to the rules imposed by others! I was a “robot” with a human figure!! Stressful job, family, obligations… But now I live and do 90% only what I want and like to do. And the motivation comes from inside me. My actions now are of two kinds: 1. I enjoy myself and am happy to do them: yoga, sports, reading, listening to good music, taking care of the flowers in my yard, meeting good friends, traveling, discovering places, people and different cultures, theater, silent retreats, etc.; 2 . actions that I do as an understandable, rational necessity, that I do with the acceptance of the situation, without frustration and without feeling that they “must” be done, with or without my will!! And all this without the rigor of a rigid, imperative program! So no rules, tests, constraints! I am at peace with myself and everything that surrounds me. ! Improving fluency in English combines both actions and then I find motivation to prioritize it. It’s a challenge with myself and I’m very happy to do it!! With you, Professor Vig it is a pleasure to study. Thank you Mr. Vig!
It was a pity, that your family had been completely left out from your Happy New Life though.. Think again!
You misunderstood what I was saying. I love my family and I do everything for them with pleasure (without feeling that I “have to”). I am also happy to do anything for dear friends. I was only referring to the way in which I live my life responsibly. Finally, there would be a lot to say about how I manage to do this, but this was the meaning of what I said…
Your friend has a TOC! Hahaha….if you hung out with a friend, it doesn’t matter if you don’t do the steps! The important thing is SPEAK ENGLISH with that friend not the steps! Jajaja (I’m jocking)
Hi Ryan !
In the life ,are rules made by us or by authorities.
Have a great weekend !
Your Vitamin bombs improved slowly, slowly. Later they will be more enjoyable. Good luck 🤔😊!
Like in prison.
But it definatelly occasionaly works…
Good story
In Latvia, we would say that he is with birds in his head. Maybe that night the birds went crazy! But we already each have our own bird garden, which must be looked after and kept in order!
Everyone has their everyday goal to reach! I don’t care what other people could think ! It’s crucial to do what is make your day!!!!!
Very interesting and nice story
Thank you!!!
I understand your friend. This mean focus. I have a target too, and I work every day for this. My target is to incrise the number of subscribers on my own YouTube Cannel – România văzută din tractor (Eng: Romania seen from the tractor). Now I have 22.230 subscribers, but my target is 30.000 untill the last day of this year. I write this just becouse I try to improve my English. So, I like your method!
Ohohooohhh nooo please !!!
I can not live in rhat way !
i wont to be in your class
Please send me a class entry to my phone number
Good story for the weekend!
I really like to take steps (i.e.walking), but I have never counted them, it´ś just a pleasure for me.If your friend does this, it is by his choice or certain need, we humans are different.
But about the rules of English…well, better if there were choices instead of rules.
Have a nice weekend!
I’m steel laughing.
I think this story motivates us to take action, even in the face of uncertainty.
Constrained extrem👎🤣🙄
A great story!! Lol
Having to perform a number of steps (or meters, yards, whatever) may be a healthy idea, many experts say. You should do 6000 steps a day, by the way… Congrats if you take some similar advices seriously. Play with English a minimum of 15 minutes a day, which is more than 45 minutes in a class and use the eye-ear connection if you can “organize” it. Plus remember:100 verbs in past-present-future rather than trying to memorize 10 verbs in all 12 tenses.. Did I make myself clear?
Being a slave to rules.
Today we account evtething: steps, calories, weight, Hours of fasting… What mor any idea?
I think this is motivation story for us
In order for someone to achieve their goal they need selfcontrol. Whithout a programm is difficult enough, at least at the time of the begining of the assignment. Personally speaking I believe in programm. It reminds me that I have to do something. It’s a way of my progress since I was a child. The programm puts me in order. Since I followed Mr’s Vig vitamin V programm, I read every day your emails. This kind of communication is a motivation for me.
About numbers. If we look at it from a health point of view, 10,000 steps or about ~5,000 meters per day are currently recommended. But it is very welcome that your friend wants to walk at least 2000 meters (or ~ 4000 steps) every day. Our sedentary lifestyle, you know, makes us weak. I try to walk 7000 or ~3500 meters every day (the way to/from work). I try, but it doesn’t always work out: it’s raining, I’m late, but I’m also trying 🙂
I love it. Thats the way i don’t want to behave like.
good job
I have to choose between a drink or 143 steps 😅
