Just got back from Dublin yesterday.
I’ve got a friend who lives there and thought I’d stop by for a few days on my way back to Prague.
When we were walking around the city he told me a lot about Irish history.
Things I never knew.
For example, not so long ago, when Ireland was still a part of the British Empire, you could get beaten up for speaking Irish in the street.
The Empire wanted everyone to speak English.
Imagine that: a punch in the face for not practicing English.
How’s that for motivation?
I don’t know…
Seems like a bit much.
But on the other hand, my friend’s English is quite good…
