Too much of a good thing.
Ever heard that expression before?
For example, I like Thai food.
But here in Thailand, as you can imagine, there are a LOT of Thai restaurants.
Sometimes it’s hard to choose.
But back in the U.S., I have to drive for 25 minutes to get from my parents’ house to the nearest town. And once you’re in town, there’s only one Thai restaurant.
Easy!
ENGLISH EXCUSES
On Monday, I asked you why you’re not speaking more.
And this week, I’m knocking down your top excuses.
Here we go…
“I’M NOT READY”
Were you ready to be born?
Were you ready for your first day of school?
Ready to be married?
Ready to have kids?
And do you think you’ll be ready to die?
My guess is, probably not.
So why would you ever be ready to start practicing English?
THE REAL REASON
Let’s be honest, shall we?
When I hear a student say, “I’m not ready” what they’re really saying is, “I don’t want to be embarrassed.”
That’s normal.
Who likes to be embarrassed?
The key is, don’t practice at work in front of your colleagues who want your job.
Don’t practice in front of your teenage daughter who likes to laugh at you.
And don’t practice in front of an impatient English teacher who likes to correct every mistake and make you feel like a schoolboy/girl again.
Instead, practice with friends who want you to succeed.
Know anyone like that?
I do…
