Do you buy souvenirs when you travel?
When I was a nomad, I couldn’t – you need a home to put your souvenirs in.
But now that I have an apartment again, I’m buying souvenirs again.
Here’s the souvenir I got from Malta:
Do you know what language “souvenir” comes from? And what it means?
It doesn’t come from England….
A Big Mix
English is a big mix.
That’s what I told you yesterday.
When you speak English, you’re actually speaking words from languages around the world.
German… Hindi… Navajo… Greek… Turkish….
And “souvenir” is one of those words.
It comes from the French word, se souvenir , which means “to remember.”
So when you buy a souvenir, you’re buying something to help you remember your trip.
What was the last souvenir you bought?

It was a necklace, or maybe the latest earrings… I don’t remember…
I like so much to see and buy souvenirs when I travel in a new place that I spendi for many hours visiting the little stores to find the best souvenir.Souvenir is a French word and the process of making it mean to master a beautiful thing, not a common one. I see on your nice souvenir from Malta a symbol of this country The Maltese Cross the symbol of protection, very interesting to read about these things…
I usually buy a souvenir” when I travel . It reminds me of the regions , the cities where I passed . The last time , I bought two beautiful cups for me and my husband .
A little bell in Prague
Hi, in general I don’t buy souvenirs for me because mostly items a tourist could buy are of low quality and limited use and expensive. But I do take photos and gifts for my family members and friends. Usually artcrafts and drawings from street artists.
The souvenirs are nice and the word itself sounds beautiful. The best souvenir is something that you will not disappear somewhere in the depths of the closet. My favorite is the wall clock vith picture of the Sagrada Familia.
I rarely buy souvenirs, but in Lisbon I bought a small fridge magnet that looked like a beautifully decorated tile that reminded me of azulejo. I have seen something similar in Spain and Brazil, but Lisbon is a “jewel box”, so this souvenir is very dear to me.
When I travel, I think about my loved ones. They are not with me, but I´d like to share nice moment with them. The souvenirs could help me share the interesting story. They make me remember the situation, dialogue, people, smiles. Stay in Malta was inspirative and hopeful. Good night.
I rarely buy souvenirs because I’m old enough and my house is full of different stuffs that I brought from my previous journeys. But sometimes I can’t resist and buy a nice scarf or collect some little stones. I always bring some pebbles from my trips. They are on my desk or on my shelves.
I rarely buy souvenirs. My last one is from Novosibirsk. I bought the foot of bear. It was a wonderful trip, and I still like my souvenir.
the last one that I remember, similar your souvenir, is a eastern vase that I bought in Warzaw
When I buy some souvenirs it’s because I’d like to keep and bring with me a piece of a place that I cherish.
I like to buy some souvenirs like a memory from cities when I have been , especially it s funny small fridge magnets . Every time when I open my fridge I look at them and recall some interesting moments from my travels 🙂
