Yesterday, I showed you a sign here in Prague that makes no sense.
Then I asked you to guess what the word “corns” might mean.
“Popcorn.”
“A translation from the German word ‘korn’ – a type of alcohol.”
“Seeds.”
And my favorite, “pig guts.”
The Answer Is…
After taking the photo, I walked inside the store.
The shop clerk was a young Czech-Vietnamese man (many of these shops in Prague are owned by families who immigrated from Vietnam).
First, I asked him if he spoke English.
“Yes,” he answered.
“Great,” I replied. “I’d like some corns.”
“What?” he asked.
“Corns,” I repeated.
He looked confused.
I explained that his sign says they sell corns.
He still looked confused.
So I spelled it.
“C-o-r-n-s.”
That didn’t help either.
“No corns,” he said.
“What about just one? Can I have just one corn?”
“No corns.”
The Unsolved Prague Corns Mystery
Sorry about that.
But Vitamin V is not television.
And I’m not Columbo.
This is real life.
You can’t solve all your mysteries.
And you can’t get corns.
Even if you speak English.
Nice story!
Nice and funny unexpected story : The unsolved Prague unbuyable corns mystery !
Perfect 👌
It’s like bedtime story !
I think ‘corns’ is not a power word!
Funny story.
My mother is chinese, my father is japanese, I am a little bit confused.😂
I was curious what that would mean !… You asked him very well. 😀But you are not Colombo, you are good teacher. Such meaningless signs on shops are also in Slovakia. Or they are invented – renamed ! For example Café ( is renamed): Café in Slovak language is Kaviareň. Now is new sign – Kávičkáreň. New word. Nonsence…Fortunately just somewhere.🤔😆
I don’t now
Hi , Mr Vig , I love yours daily status and reading it every day and todays is perfect, because of your reactions! if do not understand, let’s ask!, right?
In czechoslovakia we have some speech: He who asks a lot learns a lot.! but not in these case, isn’t it?
That reassures me. I always think I can’t understand and it’s make me “tired” (I dont know how to say “ça me fatigue”)
But it’s ok
Hello, cute teacher!
I didn’t like this text about “corn” at all. I will never eat corn.
