Every Wednesday, I take the metro across town to work at a co-working space.
I go on Wednesdays because that’s when all the members go out to lunch together.
They also have other events like yoga, a writers group, board game night, pub night, ski trips, bowling, etc. etc.
It’s a community.
And these days, as we spend more and more time in front of our screens, it’s nice to know people you can meet with in-person.
Don’t you think?
The Vig Village Community
Vig Village is the community I started.
Years ago, I saw that my friends in Prague who spoke the best English didn’t take English lessons: they didn’t need to.
Instead, they belonged to international communities where the common language was English.
“Ah ha!” I thought. “Maybe that’s the solution…”
So in 2020, I started my own community where members can practice English.
It’s mostly online.
We meet in Zoom rooms and on Whatsapp.
But now, it’s also offline.
Last year, we met in Prague, Bratislava, Budapest, Warsaw, Vilnius, Riga, Sofia and Valetta (Malta).
This year, we’re going to meet in Riga, Prague, Varna, Malta and maybe some more locations.
What about you?
Do you belong to a community where you must speak English?
Do you think your English would improve if you belonged to a community where the common language was English?
Since last year, I’ve been improving my English through Vig Village’s zooms. I’ve really enjoyed being able to talk about different subjects with different people. And for all that, I’d like to thank Ryan for creating this community and all the participants for sharing their life stories with me. But now I’m going to leave this online community behind because I’ve just moved house and joined a face-to-face English-French conversation community. Good luck to you all! Laurence
Thank you for being an active member of our community for so long, Laurence! And best of luck in your new offline community!
The easy answer is ” oh, yes, yes!…”
The complex answer has some problems:
What sort of community, what kind of people, what type of values…???
it’s one of the most incentive to learn language, meet friends, a group where we can share the experience, because if we can’t speak, we can’t share. to know people is one of the best thing in our life, life is alternance of our space and space with other people. of course I think that everyone need to be owner of the timing to decide who, when, where, meet people. simply we can call it freedom. In the freedom the only that we can’t decide is love, and when the love come the space of soul are always togheter
The answer is yes, of course. I have improving my english the last few days and it really helps. Now I belong to the community of Vig Village and I always enjoy it when I have the opportunity to speak to people from other countries, and you know that the only language you can speak is English. I really appreciate it and I’m pleasantly suprised how many people from all over the world want to speak and improve your english. It was the best investment in yourself.
Oh my god…. So long answers, your english is so good, bu my unfortunately not😞t
I feel like you Tina, but I’m confident in Mr Vig method. So don’t worry longer, and jump as I’ll do tomorrow 😉
I’d like to join to this community, but I know I’d just sit and no say any word, because I don’t understand the spoken language. I can write but only slowly well considering every words. I like reading the news of daily letters from Mr. Vig, but hearing and speaking in a live chat or a digital classroom… So I don’t know. I think it’s very far from me.
Dear Imre, this is so familiar to me.
Try it. It’s not as scary as it seems 🙂
Hi Imre, I’m just like you : but let’s try ! See you soon !
A business world is a kind of English community. If you have your own international trading business you have to communicate with a lot of different partners in plenty of countries around Europe and World. It’s a big pleasure to work with all the wonderful people and create long term partnerships. The only minus is that the mostly conversations are via emails, so I hope very much to improve my English skills with and in that great community of Vig Village.
With warm regards, Tanja

I have also been encouraged to take part in the discussions in the English language gardening group.
