Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Where would you go for a good time?
The casino?
The marijuana store?
The brothel?
All are legal and easy to find in Vegas (that’s why they call it “Sin City.”)
But if you’re a local, you’ll likely head to the Arts District.
A.k.a. the hipster part of town.
Hipsters In Vegas
I’m back in Virginia.
For the last few days I was visiting family in Vegas.
And the tour continues today with the hipster part of town.
Have you heard that word?
It’s new.
In the 1950s, there were beatniks.
In the 1960s, there were hippies.
In the 1970s, there were punks.
In the ‘80s, there was new wave.
In the ‘90s, there was grunge.
And now, we have hipsters.
Here are two interesting things about hipsters which are different from the other youth sub-cultures:
- There is no hipster music
- You can find hipster streets all over the world.
The hipster part of the town is usually the section that used to be industrial – factories, warehouses, etc.
Then it was empty and rundown.
Then the hipsters entrepreneurs came along and made it cool.
The hipster section has interesting restaurants, cool cafes, vintage clothing shops, record stores, tattoo parlors and, my favorite, lots of craft beer!
But the most famous bar in this part of Vegas is not new.
It’s called“Atomic Liquors.”
Why “atomic”?
Because if you went there for a drink in the 1950s you could sit on the roof and watch atomic bombs explode in the distance.
How cool!
Cheers,
Mr. Vig
P.S.
A.k.a….
Sin…
Rundown….

Certainly I’ll love the hipster part of any town because you can find there wonderful, cool, vintage things.
I noticed this emotional comerciale like Atomic Liquors wich is something similar with ” raising rats”, isn’t it ?
Hi, I didnt know these 3 words. A.k.a in slovak language is it – alias. Word rundown is often using. A lot off old houses and fabrics from 19st. we in Slovakia have rundown. Hipsters we have too…
Hi,
I didn’t know the existence of the “Atomic Liquors”. I red about it and discovered it was quite a spot in the 1950s indeed.
The hipster sections in towns are cool because they blend old charming ( or not ) buildings with modern style and new creative design.
obviously like your website but you need to test the spelling on quite a few of your posts Several of them are rife with spelling problems and I to find it very troublesome to inform the reality on the other hand Ill certainly come back again
