CASTLETON, VIRGINIA – If you’re new to these emails, here’s the backstory.
I’m in quarantine on a 325 acre farm in Virginia, USA. I’m not worried about the virus for my own safety; but I’m also here with my 86-year-old father. So let’s just say, we’re not having so many parties these days.
It’s quiet. I’m getting a lot of work done.
But I’m also planning my return to Europe.
And I have a new project — I shall learn a new language!
As we say in English, I’m learning it from scratch. That means I’m starting from zero. I never studied this language in school. I’ve never even been to the country where it’s spoken.
So this will be an experiment. I’ll learn every day. I’ll use the Vig Method. And when the borders are open again, I’ll go to the country where this language is spoken, and…
What will happen?
Will they laugh at me?
Will I order a coffee and get a pina colada with lobster soup?
Will I tell my Airbnb hostess I need fresh towels and get slapped in the face?
We shall find out.
There’s nothing more motivating than publicly telling people what you’re going to do.
Do you think I could possibly wake up tomorrow, feel lazy, and decide NOT to learn my new language…?
No way!
There are two ways to climb a fence.
You can put one foot on the fence, then the other, and start to climb.
Or you can throw your hat over the fence.
Method #1 is how most people start new projects.
Method #2 is a simple, yet super-effective way to give yourself a TON of motivation.
And if you’ve ever been too tired or busy for English, you know the value of motivation.
