Yesterday I asked you this question:
Do kids in your country have summer reading?
The results were mixed.
Yes, in some countries; no, in others.
But I think most agree it’s a good idea.
As one Vitamin V reader commented, reading is “relaxing and it helps to improve… expressiveness, vocabulary, imagination.”
I can also add that it improves grammar and spelling (that’s according to some research I read).
So if it’s good for kids, it must be good for adults, too!

My reading list:
I like reading and I used to read a lot. Before kids, of course… Now it’s another era…
I’ve got interested in the book about th immune system you’ve mentioned, and found it on Amazon. Thank you for the tip !
My first book I have read in English was a classic children’s book, The secret garden that I can say it was very difficult for me because I had to stop many times to search the meaning of the words in a dictionary ; but the story was wonderful and I used to say sometimes that I have discovered and embraced my inner child with this occasion.
Next was the first book in a famous trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone fantasy books that contain many symbols and some old miths that I’m very curious and interested
Now I’ m reading the second, Siege and Storm, a little more difficult than the first. I hope that soon I will read the third Ruin and Rising…!
I found several books that are English – Slovak. One side is in English, the opposite side is in Slovak. When he reads the English text and I don’t understand, I look at the Slovak translation. For example, the books “Edgar Alan Poe: The Murders in the Rue Morgue”, or “Oscar Wilde: The Canterville Ghost”.
Photo of these two books.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis (finished)
Around the World in 80 Days (sort versio) by Jules Verne (finished)
Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare (finished)
Hotel Milano by Tim Parks (in progress. Interesting but not easy.)
I like to read books. Not only during the summer time but during the whole year. Now there are several books next to my bed. Currently, I am reading a book from the book series “Seven sisters” written by Lucinda Riley. There are the 8 books together and now I am reading the 6th one. I just love the story and I have already talked about it several times during the chat rooms. The story is about a man from Switzerland who “unexpectedly”died. This man adopted 7 kids – girls during his life. The girls were from different parts of the world (Spain, Norway, New Zeland, Scotland, Brazil, UK, Irland). When the girls came home for the funeral, they found out that his dad was aready buried in the sea (it was his will). To say “Good bye”, the dad let each girl a letter and GPS where she was born. Each book is about one of the daughters and about her journey to find realatives or discover the place she came from. Each book takes a reader back to 18-19th century (to the roots for each girls) and to the present time. The reader can learn a lot about the past. For instance about the time when the statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro was built or about the period of the rise and fall of the pearl trade in Australia. Definetely worth to read it!
I like crime stories. I am reading The 6:20 man by David Baldacci now. The other book , is Shadow black by Sebastian de Castell. The last book is little more difficult for me and I am reading slowly.
This summer I started to read in English the exciting adventure book Around the World in Eighty Days, written by Jules Verne, along with my fellows from the Bookworms Chat Clube in the Vig Village.☀️📖
Because I already can read books in English I’m going to continue with the next book in English – The Wealth Money Can’t Buy by Robin Sharma – one of my favorite authors.
And, meanwhile, I’m reading High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard but in my native language – Bulgarian.
Now I’m reading Collision Course from Kerryn Higgs.
The level is hard for me but the subject is very important , I would say even crucial nowadays and it contais a lot of information.
Sure, it”s not a novel.
I understand ,that you have found boring the Sense and Sensibility ,but the Proud and Prejudice is the best novel of the world. This is my opinoin.
I admire people who read several books at once. Before Covid was a public reading in the garden in the old center Bratislava. I like photography and art books. I enjoyed reading Ernest Hemingway books – Across the river and under the trees. John Steinbeck s book was also good for me. Howeaver, no in english language… There is already book about Elon Musk ? E.Musk is great enterpreneur and the right person !
