Last month, I visited Bombay.
I mean, Mumbai.
Then I spent a month in Siam.
I mean, Thailand.
On my way back, I had to change planes in Turkey.
I mean, Türkiye.
Finally, I arrived back in Czechoslovakia.
I mean, the Czech Republic.
I mean, Czechia.
Why do countries keep changing their names?
I had a childhood friend who changed his name in college.
The problem was, no one could remember to call him by the new name.
Eventually, he gave up and went back to his old name.
My dad still asks me, “How are things in Czechoslovakia?”
Do you know the previous name /s of your country?

The Exciting Conclusion
Yesterday, I told you the airline lost my bag with my apartment keys inside.
So how did I get into my apartment?
A company manages my apartment. (I’ve never met the owner.)
So I emailed their office.
Luckily, someone was working late and he let me in.
I like current name of my country
Hi Ryan !
I like current mame of my country !
And you are a lucky man !
Cheers ,

Czechoslovakia.was a name of 2 nations: czech and slovak, but country was split to 2 separate countries Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. So it is not just the name change..
I don’t know its history, but I know in former times everybody talked about Gruzija (a sovereign state in the Caucasus region of Eurasia), and
now they name it Georgia. It’s confusing, it sounds similar to Georgia from the
US.
My country also changed the name, but as a result of splitting previous country into six small countries. We used to it, today.
But the problem of changing street names is very common here. The mixture of all names is in use. Most of the people don’t know the actual street names. Even the Google uses old names very often.
Well, I think that sometime is good to return in the past, especially when you have to take a precious thing that you left there, but many times is better to stay in the present. It appears the best time that suits to stay in and increase is the present.
Hi Mr. Vig,
for almost every country its original name is different than the English version – for example Polska-Poland, Deutschland-Germany, Gruzija-Georgia. The problem starts if somebody tries to mix them both.
So, let’s keep to tradition and everything will be nice and clear.
Best regards from Poland
That is tru. Suomi – Finland, Sverige – Sweden, Norge – Norway …
Before reunification I lived in the GDR and now in the Federal Republic of Germany. And I’m very happy about that. By the way, you’re great Ryan. I love VitaminV and your daily stories so much. Every day I’m always very excited about your news.
Glad to hear it! And I agree, that was a good change.
I think also that we have a one and only name. My country name is Macedonia 🇲🇰 and we who are living in this country never will be changed a name. For instance we have a voting about this and 99 % of people vote that our name is Macedonia. This is was political disition when some politicians make changes from Macedonia to North Macedonia and this subject is very sensitive for my people. I didn’t understand how is possible to push somebody to change his name. Everyone know how’s own name. So we was , we are and we will be Macedonia.
Very interesting topic special for me.
Thanks for your choice Mr Vig 👍
Slivenia is new country. Established 1990. Before we was in Yugoslavia.
My country has changed its name throughout history. In any case, the republic where I live has not changed its basic name, it has always been Serbia.
Before that, it was the Kingdom of Serbia, and with the unification with the Kingdom of Montenegro and the parts of the Balkans that fell to it after the First World War, it became the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
Then after the 2nd World War, a somewhat territorially expanded Yugoslavia was born, first the Democratic Federal Yugoslavia (abbreviated DF Yugoslavia or DFJ) was a country that simultaneously represented the last period of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the first period of socialist Yugoslavia (later known as the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia and the Socialist Federal Republic Yugoslavia).
Behind that, after the civil war and the disintegration of SFRY into several parts, i.e. republics, the state union of Serbia and Montenegro was created.
Peaceful reunification resulted in two states, one of which is now the Republic of Serbia.
Many changes in the name of the basic country of Serbia in a historically short time.
France is always France
It’s not good to put your key appartment in your luggage. Always with you, like your money and important documents. Certainly next time you will change your idea.
Most of the time changes in country names are a result of political decisions while some people change their name when it is ridiculous or if they don’t like it.
By the way Mr Vig has à good lack.
Ya Mr. Vig it’s very common some countries used to change their name for some reasons, for example my country Sudan divided into two countries, in the north we took the real name and the part took the name of South Sudan.
Česko, like Burkina Faso…
All your stories and descriptions are great. A pleasure to read them!
Many thanks Mr Vig!
