Have you noticed?
English spelling is a nightmare.
There are silent letters, double letters and invisible letters (just kidding).
There are foreign words, ancient words and new words.
And sometimes, the same letters are pronounced three different ways:
- Cough.
- Ghost.
- Though.
Hurray!
Last weak, I misspelled a word: peak.
But I’ve got the best spell check in the world: you!
Several readers corrected me.
And rather than retire in embarrassment, like a true teacher-businessman, I made it into a lesson for Extra Strength subscribers and benefitted financially!
What’s my point?
Let’s talk about spelling!
In 21 years, I’ve never given one spelling lesson.
This will be a first.
And we’ll start with a quiz: Which word did I misspell in today’s Vitamin V?
Cheers,
Mr. Vig
Week?
Hello! Mr Teacher! You say “ Englsh spelling is a nightmare” but not for me…I cam make it easily, but I have many others issue.. like ..remember words…( I‘m too old) but I don’t give up!
Last weak, I misspelled a word: peak. The correct word is WEEK.
Hi, there’s a typo in the word “benefit.” It should be “benefited,” not “benefitted.”
Best regards Vienias
My spell check underlined it but when I looked it up I read that both are correct.
The pronounciation is the same, but the meaning is different-weak-week. Last week I felt very weak because of the heatwave.😅
Hi, ‘benefitted’ spelling is incorrect; should be ‘benefited’.
and weak… should be week
benefited!
“this will be the first” ?
Weak – week
