Have you ever lost your car keys?
First, you looked everywhere except where they were.
But where did you eventually find them?
Probably exactly where you left them.
The same thing is happening when you speak…
Our Two Memories
A lot of students are confused.
“I know the word, but when I want to speak I can’t remember it.”
It’s because you’re looking for your keys in the wrong place.
When you learn what a word means, it goes here.
When you learn to use a word, it goes here.
Two different types of memory, two different locations.
So what’s the reason you can’t remember words while speaking?
It’s because you’ve never practiced remembering them while speaking.
HI Ryan !
Very interesting theory about the memory.
In my opinion,in order to be able to master a foreign language ,it is necessary to be all the time in the environment where that language is spoken. In this way ,the memory will be constantly fed new words and with the oldest ones through conversation.
Cheers

Yes, I agree that it’s a best way, but unfortunately very seldom available.
I am confusing when I want to speak…
Hi, there. Don’t be confused (I guess, you’re not confusING, You are used to be confused).
But You are not confused when you’re writing your comments, are You? So, write comments, letters, etc., just practice. And don’t WANT to speak, just speak, even if You make mistakes.
Cheers, and Happy Halloween!
Very interesting, but to make another step , I wonder why wouldn’t work to bridge the gap between the two central nervous sistem centers and create a conditioned reflex like in physiology? We need to associate a reward to pay you every time when you remember a new word…I think about!
But how to do that ?
Cool links.
I like your brillant ideas.
You’re a really good teacher!
Interesting story about function of specific part of brain which control memorizing processes. So we, your students do not learning just English but a number of interesting topics.
Thanks for being focused on how to make your English class different and attractive.
Becaude i’m 84 old
Because, I’m 84 old
Don’t worry, I’m almost the same. Just speak, just learn. I know I’ll not be here long enough to make some great use of my english, but my goal is not just to know English. Learning it is my first goal. Giving some good exercising to my brain to not get stiff and unflexible, and enjoy the process at the same time.
Thank you for your advice!
